When players are meta-gaming and turn down refreshments…
Hey LARP Tumblr! What’s the difference between metagaming and being an experienced character who has seriously been through some shit? My character has plenty of reason not to accept a drink that’s been in someone else’s possession if she doesn’t know them, and a good bit of the time when she does because some people will give you a minor poison just for the lols. I’m not just going to put something in my face under incredibly suspicious circumstances.
Simple- when it’s a one-off theatre-form game where the repercussions and effects of any magical food, frankly, are the whole point. And where people are deliberately not even drinking the water we’ve provided to keep people hydrated.
I have a friend who has murdered my character twice now (and raised her as an undead), but I lost memory every time. So technically there was no reason for my character not to trust him. However, I know people in similar situations who still won’t walk off with people they should have no reason to be suspicious of because they know OOG that person is evil. People metagame without even realizing they’re doing it.
Our game also uses mike n ike’s to represent poison. To avoid people seeing the mike n ike in their drink and suddenly deciding not to drink it, the rule is that if you see it, it is as though you drank it.
